Our Mission
The Giveback Charity Foundation is driven by an unwavering commitment to foster significant and sustainable transformation within the communities we serve. Our core mission is to inspire and empower the entire community — from individual donors and volunteers to corporate partners — to join us in making a measurable difference where it is needed most. We achieve this by strategically funding and supporting local programs that serve as the bedrock for a stronger, more equitable society.
Investing in the Future: Health, Education, Youth & Public Service
A fundamental pillar of our work is directly addressing the root causes of systemic challenges. We focus our resources on four critical areas that offer the highest return on investment for long-term societal health:
1. Health & Wellness
We champion health and wellness initiatives, ensuring access to quality medical care and resources for vulnerable populations. We believe that good health is not a privilege, but a basic human right necessary for prosperity.
2. Education
We invest heavily in education, providing scholarships, essential learning materials, and innovative programs to break down barriers to opportunity. We aim to equip the next generation with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world, thereby promoting economic stability for families and entire neighborhoods.
Spotlight: The Jha Family Legacy of Learning
One of the clearest examples of what this pillar looks like in practice is the Jha Family Legacy of Learning, a Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Endowment made possible by donor Mr. Ramanand Jha at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Structured as five memorial funds — honoring Ripu Sudan & Yashoda Thakur, Ek Nath & Gunjeshwari Jha, Prabhu Nath & Nirmala Jha, S.N. & Renu Mishra, and Amit Kumar Jha — the program closes the tuition gap for students whose families earn between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh a year, covering the ₹66,667 in annual fees that government aid doesn't reach. This year alone, it carried 10 scholars across six engineering disciplines through to internships at companies like Tata Steel, Appian AI, and American Express — proof that a single family's generosity, thoughtfully structured, can compound into years of opportunity for students who would otherwise be priced out of their own potential. It's the model we point to whenever we talk about what an education gift can become.
3. Youth Development
We are deeply committed to youth development. Our support goes beyond simple recreation; we fund mentorship programs, leadership training, and safe spaces that nurture talent, build character, and instill a sense of civic responsibility in young people. By doing so, we are actively shaping the future leaders and compassionate citizens of our community.
4. Public Service
Public service is where everything else we do turns outward. It's the pillar that asks not just "how do we help someone" but "how do we make the systems around them work better." We treat public service as active participation in civic life — not a once-a-year volunteer day, but an ongoing commitment to strengthening the institutions and public goods a community depends on.
In practice, this means:
Volunteer mobilization at scale — coordinating skilled and general volunteers into local government initiatives, public health campaigns, disaster response efforts, and neighborhood infrastructure projects, so public agencies can do more with the resources they have.
Civic engagement and voter empowerment — nonpartisan voter registration drives, public forums, and plain-language guides to local ballot measures, so residents can participate meaningfully in the decisions that shape their communities.
Public-private partnerships — working directly alongside municipal agencies, public health departments, and school districts to co-fund programs, share data, and avoid duplicating effort, so public dollars and philanthropic dollars pull in the same direction.
Disaster and crisis response — rapid-deployment volunteer networks and emergency funding pools that activate when floods, fires, or public health emergencies strain local capacity.
Government and institutional accountability — public awareness campaigns and, where necessary, legal advocacy to ensure that institutions receiving public trust and public tax benefits — hospitals, utilities, and agencies alike — actually deliver on their obligations to the communities they serve.
Civic education for young people — extending our youth development work into hands-on public service: student-led community boards, junior civic fellowships, and partnerships with local government offices that let young people see, and shape, how public institutions actually work.
We see public service as the connective tissue between charity and citizenship. Feeding a family, funding a scholarship, or covering a medical bill matters enormously — and it matters more when it's paired with the civic muscle to make sure fewer families need that kind of help in the first place.
Fighting for Ethical Healthcare
Beyond local funding, the Giveback Charity Foundation recognizes that systemic change requires courageous advocacy. We stand as a dedicated force holding healthcare giants accountable when they prioritize corporate profits over patient well-being. We are committed to using every resource at our disposal — from legal challenges to public awareness campaigns — to push back against unethical billing practices, denial of necessary treatment, and declining quality of care. Our goal is ethical, compassionate, and high-quality healthcare for every patient, with human dignity placed above the bottom line.
A Documented Case: Providence Health Care Our stance on Providence Health Care reflects real public and legal scrutiny the health system has faced regarding its treatment of low-income patients. In February 2024, Providence reached a $157.8 million settlement with the Washington State Attorney General's office — the largest resolution of its kind in the country — after being accused of pressuring tens of thousands of low-income patients to pay bills they may have qualified to have reduced or waived, in some cases referring them to debt collectors. Under the settlement, Providence agreed to refund roughly $20.6 million (plus interest) to more than 34,000 patients and to forgive over $137 million in outstanding medical debt for more than 65,000 more, in addition to paying $4.5 million toward the state's enforcement costs. Providence has stated it is committed to strengthening how it connects patients with financial assistance going forward.
For the Foundation, this case illustrates a broader principle: the significant tax benefits non-profit hospital systems receive should be matched by real, tangible charity care — and when they aren't, accountability matters.
The Broader Warning: Systemic Healthcare Flaws
The Foundation's mission to raise awareness about the healthcare system addresses concerns that extend well beyond any single institution:
Cost and Access Crisis — Despite the U.S. spending far more per capita on healthcare than any other wealthy nation, millions of Americans still skip or delay necessary care due to cost, and medical debt remains a leading cause of personal bankruptcy.
Profit Over People — Corporate incentives, claim denials, and financial pressure on providers can compromise patient care. Non-profit hospitals in particular are expected to meet their charitable obligations in proportion to the tax benefits they receive.
Systemic Inequity — Complexity and lack of transparency in the healthcare system compound financial, racial, and geographic inequities. We advocate for transformational change that guarantees dignity and access for all — not just temporary fixes.
